How we matched every state's math standards, sheet by sheet
“Common Core aligned” is where most worksheet sites stop. But 37 states teach from standards of their own, with their own codes, their own wording and topics Common Core never asks for, like coins in kindergarten. Here is how we gave every state its own pages, wrote a sheet for every standard, and checked that each sheet practises what its standard asks.
✓ checked against each state's own documentsSeven steps, every state
One catalogue of sheets
Every skill is written once. Each state's standards are a view over that catalogue: the same sheet prints Texas's code in Texas and Maryland's in Maryland, at the grade that state teaches it.
267 skillsRead each state's own documents
Not summaries: the standards each state adopted, from its own department of education, with the official title, the year, how its codes work and when the next revision is due.
55 jurisdictionsMap every standard
Each state standard is matched to Common Core as the same, edited, moved from another grade, or new. Texas, Florida, Virginia and Maryland, the furthest from Common Core, are modeled in full.
6,006 rows in 38 crosswalksWrite what's missing
Where a state asks for something Common Core doesn't, we wrote the sheet: coins in kindergarten, thermometers, mean, median and mode in grade 5, saving goals.
106 sheets for state-only contentCheck the fit, row by row
A sheet existing isn't a sheet fitting. Every state row that differs from Common Core was read against everything its sheets show across 40 versions of each sheet, then rated good, partial or mismatch. We fixed what fell short and reviewed the changed rows again.
13 passes and a fresh reviewCheck the facts
Every state's title, adoption year and notes were checked against primary sources: board minutes, state rules, the agency's own pages. That check corrected 26 of 57 sets and found an adoption the same day it happened.

Find your state
Choose a state for its standards, its codes, how far it sits from Common Core, and links to its worksheets and its official document. A dashed yellow edge marks a state whose 2027–28 standards are already on Mathness.
Every state row now fits its sheets
Coverage means a sheet exists for a standard. Fit means the sheet practises what the standard asks, at its grade. Each review read a state's wording against every section its sheets show, across 40 versions of each sheet. Each pass linked better sheets or added the missing activity; the changed rows were then reviewed again. Halfway, a fresh review started from scratch, without the earlier verdicts, and found the step-by-step reviews had grown too generous, so the bar went up for every pass after it.
The four own sets
Every K–5 row of Texas, Florida, Virginia and Maryland, reviewed the same way. The first reviews saw each sheet's topic; later ones saw every section of every sheet.

Topics states teach that Common Core doesn't
What reading every state's standards turned up, where it appears, and whether a sheet practises it. Money before grade 2 is the most common addition, in 34 states.

Pre-K in states' own codes
Common Core starts at kindergarten. Our pre-K sheets follow Head Start's Early Learning Outcomes Framework (2015), goals P-MATH 1–10, in every state not yet mapped. Fourteen states are mapped in their own pre-K codes, from their math or early-learning standards:
Texas (Prekindergarten Guidelines 2022), Florida (4 years to kindergarten, 2017) and Virginia (2021) show Head Start's goals until mapped.
Sheets read aloud
Pre-K sheets are made to be read by a grown-up: 24pt answers, pictures 80–140pt, a picture cue beside every title (trace, circle, color, line, draw), and answers made by circling, tracing or drawing, never writing.
The most-used programs, mapped unit by unit
Share of US elementary math teachers who use each program at least weekly (RAND American Instructional Resources Survey 2025). Teachers name several, so family totals overlap. Blue is mapped: each unit links the sheets for the standards it teaches, in the worksheet maker.
Program names identify the programs only. Mathness is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by any of their publishers.

- Every summary on Mathness is in our own words; standards are cited by their codes. Where a state publishes no crosswalk to Common Core, the mapping is our judgment from the texts, and the site says so.
- Titles and adoption years were checked against each state's primary sources on 1 October 2026.
- Enrollment weights the picture; it isn't a count of Mathness users. Curriculum use counts teachers, not students.
- Flags are simplified drawings made for Mathness, not official artwork.
