Odd and even to 40

How to help

Try to pair it up or split it into two equal groups. If nothing is left over, it's even. The ones digit tells you too: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 mean even.

• doublea number added to itself

Watch for: Calling 30 odd because 3 is odd. Splitting into unequal parts: 26 = 12 + 14. Counting by twos from an odd number and landing on evens.

At home: Set out a handful of pasta or coins and pair them up. Was there one left over? Count them and say whether the number is odd or even.
