Reading temperature

Reading a thermometer in degrees Fahrenheit, telling which temperature makes sense, and working out how much warmer or colder it got.

How to help

Find the numbered mark just below the top of the dark line, then count on by the small marks. Warmer adds degrees; colder takes them away.

Watch for: Counting each small mark as 1 when it stands for 2. Reading the number nearest the line instead of counting up from below. Adding when the temperature dropped.

At home: Check an outdoor thermometer or the weather app morning and afternoon. Ask how many degrees warmer it got.
