Count faces (flat sides), edges (where two faces meet) and vertices (corners), including hidden ones. A prism has two matching bases; a pyramid has one base and a point.
Watch for: Missing the faces, edges and corners hidden at the back of the drawing. Saying a triangular prism has 3 faces: its 2 triangles and 3 rectangles make 5. Calling a pyramid a prism, or counting a cone's curved surface as a face.
At home: Gather a cereal box, a can, a ball and a party hat. Count each one's faces, edges and corners, then sort them into prisms, pyramids and curved solids.
