Nets of solids

Naming the solid a net folds into, telling which nets fold into a cube, and matching a net's faces to the solid's.

How to help

Count the faces and look at their shapes: 6 squares make a cube, triangles meeting a square make a square pyramid. Imagine folding each face up from the middle one.

Watch for: Thinking any 6 squares make a cube: a row of 6 or a 2 × 3 block won't fold. Mixing up a triangular prism (2 triangles) and a triangular pyramid (4 triangles). Counting a shared edge as two faces.

At home: Cut open an empty cereal box along its edges and lay it flat: that's a net of a rectangular prism.
