Look at the ends: arrows at both ends is a line, one arrow is a ray, two endpoints is a segment. Lines that never meet are parallel; lines meeting at a square corner are perpendicular.

Watch for: Calling a ray a line because it has an arrow. Calling any crossing lines perpendicular, even without a square corner. Missing parallel lines when they're slanted instead of flat.
At home: Hunt for them at home: shelves are parallel, a window corner is perpendicular, and a flashlight beam is like a ray.
