Finding 10 more or 10 less than a two-digit number in your head. Only the tens digit changes: 10 more than 22 is 32.

Change the tens digit by one and keep the ones the same. On a hundred chart, 10 more is one step down and 10 less is one step up.
Watch for: Changing the ones digit: 22 + 10 = 23. Counting by ones on fingers instead of changing the tens. Going the wrong way on the chart: down for 10 less.
At home: Use dimes and pennies: show 4 dimes and 3 pennies, then add a dime. Ask what the new amount is and which coins changed.
