What is income?

Income is money earned by doing work. Your child tells income from other money, sorts goods from services, and adds up or spends what they earned.

How to help

Ask: did someone do work to get this money? If so, it's income. Add the amounts earned to find the income; take away what's paid to find what's left.

Watch for: Calling a gift or found money income. Taking away when the story adds two amounts earned. Calling a service like a haircut a good because you can see it.

At home: Talk about jobs people you know do and how they earn income. Offer a few cents for an extra chore and call it income.
