Watch for: Adding straight across: 8/10 + 10/100 = 18/110. Renaming 3/10 as 3/100 instead of 30/100. Thinking 27/100 is more than 3/10 because 27 is more than 3.
At home: Use dimes and pennies: a dime is 10/100 of a dollar and a penny is 1/100. Three dimes and 4 pennies make 34/100.
