Watch for: Counting every dot slowly instead of seeing the pattern. Mixing up 4 and 5 when the dots are scattered. On dominoes, writing one side's dots instead of both sides together.
At home: Flash a few fingers or a die for a second and ask how many. Start with up to 5, then try two dice together.
