The area of a rectangle is length × width. For an L-shape, split it into two rectangles, find each area, then add.
lengthhow long a side is
widthhow wide the shape is
arealength × width, for a rectangle
sq ftsquare feet: area measured in feet
Watch for: Adding the sides (that's perimeter) instead of multiplying. Counting part of an L-shape twice when splitting it. Using a side length that belongs to the other rectangle.
At home: Measure a rug or a table and multiply to find its area.
