Count the groups, then how many are in each group. Multiply: the number of groups × the number in each.
Watch for: Adding the two numbers (2 + 4) instead of multiplying (2 × 4). Treating groups of different sizes as if they were equal. Swapping the groups and the number in each: the product is the same, but the story isn't.
At home: Look for equal groups at home: eggs in a carton, wheels on cars, socks in pairs. Ask how many groups, how many in each, and how many in all.
