Show a card for a moment, then cover it: how many did you see? Patterns like dice faces help children see 4 and 5 at once.
Watch for: Counting every dot slowly instead of looking at the shape. Guessing a big number when the dots are spread out.
At home: Roll a die and say the number of dots as fast as you can, taking turns. Fingers work too: hold up 3 and see who says it first.
