To find how many in all, count every picture, both kinds together. To find how many are left, count only the ones not crossed out.
Watch for: Counting only one kind when the question asks for all. Counting the crossed-out ones as still there.
At home: Act it out with toys: 3 cars and 2 more cars, how many now? Then drive 1 away: how many are left?
