Breaking 5 (or 4) into two parts in different ways. Your child sees some counters are dark and circles how many are light.
Count the light counters. The dark and light together always make the whole: 2 dark and 3 light make 5.
Watch for: Counting all the counters instead of just the light ones. Thinking the whole changes when the parts change.
At home: Hide some of 5 small toys under a cup: how many are hiding? Change how many you hide and try again.
