Numbers and Quantities

Say the counting numbers in order up to 20, getting more of them right over time.
- CD-10o
Look at a small group of 1 to 3 things and say how many without counting them.
- CD-10p
Count up to 10 things set out in a line, touching each once, and say how many there are.
- CD-10q
Hear a number from 0 to 5 and count out exactly that many objects.
- CD-10r
Compare two small groups (up to 5) by matching or counting, and say which has more or less.

Show that joining two groups makes a bigger group and that a group can split into smaller ones.

Write numbers, or marks that look like numbers, while playing and during the day.

Match the numbers 1 to 5 to groups with that many things, with a grown-up's help.

Know some written numbers on sight and try writing them in play and daily routines.

Compare, Sort, Measure and Pattern

Describe size, length or weight with words like short, tall, long, heavy and big.

Measure things with simple tools like a ruler, measuring cup or scale, with a grown-up's help.

Compare three or more objects at once and pick the biggest, longest or heaviest.

Shapes and Position

Use many position words, like behind, under and next to, and follow directions that use them.

Use flat and solid shapes to stand for real things, like a circle for a wheel in a picture.

Name the basic shapes and tell what makes each one that shape, like round or pointy.
Mathematical Problem Solving

Answer questions in play by trying more and more math ways, like counting, comparing or matching.

Count to work out how many are needed, and how many more, like extra plates for snack.

Show a math idea with drawings or objects, like a drawn pattern or stacked blocks for votes.
